Small Rhenish Stoneware Jug From Raeren, Late 15th–early 16th Century, Medieval Archaeology

Small Rhenish stoneware jug from Raeren, late 15th–early 16th century, medieval archaeology

Small Germanic brown stoneware vessel, Rhenish type, likely produced in the workshops of Raeren, in the Rhineland, in the late 15th or early 16th century.

This piece exhibits a typology characteristic of productions from this period: a globular body, a narrow neck flanked by two small side handles, and a thumb-turned foot. Its compact silhouette and brown stoneware body are particularly representative of late medieval Rhenish production.

The ceramic is complete, except for a chip at the base and a few small chips on the neck. No restoration.

Dimensions: height 12.5 cm.

A small, distinctive piece, interesting both for its typology and its age, originating from the Raeren Rhine stoneware tradition.
