Medieval Pewter Dinette - Small Miniature Pot From The 15th Century - Gothic Children's Toy
Rare medieval pewter alloy dinette item representing a small miniature pot with two handles, intended for children in the 15th century. These objects faithfully reproduced the models used in the daily life of adults and were veritable learning toys of the medieval domestic world.
Because of its typology, this example can easily be dated to the 15th century. It features two side handles and a decoration entirely covered with particularly decorative checkerboard patterns.
These little dinettes were made in the Middle Ages.
These little dinettes were generally made by bimblotiers, craftsmen specializing in small pewter objects, known in particular for making medieval pilgrimage signs.
Toys of this type are extremely rare on the market today. Their fragile material, combined with their daily use by children, explains their low conservation rate.
This example comes from a medieval toy.
This example comes from an old collection and was originally discovered in the town of L'Écluse (Sluis), Belgium, near Bruges, famous for the naval battle of L'Écluse at the start of the Hundred Years' War.
Dimensions: 3.2 x 3.5 cm.
Correct state of preservation for this type of object, with several visible missing items, but overall shape remaining perfectly legible.
