Funeral Miniature First Empire - Portrait Of A Man In Its Original 19th Century Mortuary Frame
Charming and moving miniature from the Premier Empire period depicting the portrait of a young man in the fashion of the early 19th century. The model is depicted with the typical characteristics of the period: hair plastered to the forehead, sideburns, suit, vest and shirt with turned-up collars.
The miniature, probably painted on ivory, is preserved in its original circular frame in black lacquered wood with gilded highlights. This is a rare funerary or mortuary frame, adorned with two upside-down torches symbolizing the extinction of life, accompanied by a bow and two arrows within a mortuary wreath.
Beautiful funerary souvenir object, charged with romantic poetry and macabre symbolism specific to the First Empire period.
In overall good condition, with a few minor accidents and wear to the frame.
Dimensions: 14 cm in diameter.
