18th Century Prismenkanne Pewter Bottle, Dated 1786 - Johann Ulrich Bauer Hallmark

Eighteenth-century Prismenkanne pewter bottle, dated 1786 - Johann Ulrich Bauer hallmark

Rare and elegant late 18th-century Prismenkanne pewter bottle of hexagonal prismatic shape, engraved with the date 1786 in a decorative cartouche on the front. On the same cartouche are the initials of the patron: MVP.

This model, typical of Germanic production, can be compared to the pewter workshops of eastern Switzerland and southern Germany, renowned in the 18th century for the quality of their metal and the finesse of their forms. The architectural silhouette, lateral clamshell spout and ring-shaped stopper correspond to typologies produced in these alpine regions.

.

The inner hallmark reveals the maker's name "Johann Ulrich Bauw", the word "Zinn" (tin in German) and the name of the manufacturing town: "CUR". it is therefore possible to attribute this piece to master tinner Johann Ulrich Bauer (Bauw/Baur), active in the Chur (Coire) region from 1748, in Switzerland.

Chur, the historic capital of the canton of Graubünden, was an active craft center in the 18th century, located on important Alpine trade routes linking Italy to the Germanic world. Pewter workshops there benefited from technical and commercial exchanges favoring quality production, today sought after by collectors.

In addition to this rose-shaped marking, there is another marking on the spout valve (Initials MB above a coat of arms) to be identified.

Height: 35.5 cm

Condition: good overall condition. Note a slight deformation of the stopper, as well as a few knocks from use on it, consistent with the age of the object and without altering its character.

A genuine piece from the French period.

An authentic 18th-century piece, both decorative and collectible, representative of the skills of Central European pewter workshops, and testifying to a regional production now relatively uncommon on the market.
