German Bronze Christ - Late 15th / Early 16th Century - Medieval, Gothic, Middle Ages

Germanic bronze Christ, dated late 15th or early 16th century, typical of production around 1500.

Christ is depicted according to iconography characteristic of this period: arms perfectly extended horizontally, legs parallel with superimposed feet, and a short perizonium tied at the side. The crown of thorns is stylized by a chiseled headband, highlighting the still sober and expressive treatment of late medieval Germanic workshops.

This is a hollow cast in bronze, presenting a fine quality of execution and a very pleasing homogeneous, antique patina.

The work is in very good condition. On the back, a small tenon can be seen, most likely intended to receive a nimbus that has now disappeared, an element frequently associated with this type of crucifix.
