Small Oval Brass Reliquary Containing A Relic To Be Identified, 19th Century
Small oval brass reliquary, in excellent condition, containing a relic beneath which is preserved an authentic antique item bearing the inscription “S. J Fra FVid..”
The precise identification of the relic and the person mentioned on the authentic piece remains to be established. The abbreviation “S.” could indicate a saint, while the following letters appear to refer to a member of a religious order or possibly to a name such as Jean-François. However, this interpretation remains uncertain and is left to the judgment of specialists in reliquaries and ecclesiastical authenticators.
The reverse side of the reliquary is particularly interesting: it is intact and retains its episcopal seal, the identity of which also remains to be determined. This seal could be a key element in determining the origin and date of the piece.
A particularly interesting object for a specialized collector or an enthusiast of antique devotional objects, especially given its state of preservation and the still-enigmatic nature of its identification.
Dimensions: 2 cm high, excluding the loop.
A rare object: despite extensive research, no strictly similar comparable piece has been found to date.
A small, particularly original piece, serving both as an object of devotion and an interesting subject of study for specialists in relics and authentic ecclesiastical seals.
Police Registry Ref.: A186
