Gothic bronze ewer, likely of German or Flemish origin, dating from the second half of the 15th century.

Of exceptional quality, this ewer features an elegant baluster-shaped body whose particularly harmonious proportions attest to the care taken in its design. The spout takes the original form of a seated lion, depicted with its mouth open—a motif that is both decorative and functional, lending the object a strong sculptural presence.

The piece originally included a handle and a lid, both of which are now missing. The location of the handle, however, remains clearly visible thanks to traces of tin preserved on the body, indicating where it was originally attached.

The ewer appears to have been given a second life, likely as a vase, after its original purpose. This reuse—common for high-quality antique objects—in no way diminishes the exceptional interest of this piece, which retains all the power of its medieval character.

Bronze tableware and dining objects from the second half of the 15th century are particularly rare on the art market today. Due to its type, the quality of its craftsmanship, its elegance, and the rarity of its preservation, this ewer is a remarkable example of late medieval bronze production.
