Bronze Osiris Statuette – Egypt, Late Period, 7th–4th Century. Archaeology, Appraised
Rare statuette depicting Osiris, a major deity of the Egyptian funerary pantheon, cast in bronze with a beautiful green patina.
The god is depicted in his traditional, mummiform, standing posture, wearing the Atef crown, a characteristic attribute of Osiris. He holds before him the insignia of his divine office—the scepter and the flail—symbols of his authority and power. The sculpture displays a sober and hieratic style, consistent with the traditional iconography of Osiris.
The work can be dated to the end of the Pharaonic period, likely the Late Period (664 and 332 B.C.). This period saw a significant production of bronze votive statuettes depicting the principal deities of the Egyptian pantheon.
The statuette is displayed on a modern black Plexiglas base, which showcases it while maintaining an elegant and understated presentation.
Height: 14.7 cm, excluding the base.
Provenance: former collection of Mr. K., Paris.
Work appraised by Mr. Daniel Lebeurrier, an expert in Paris.
A rare and particularly interesting depiction of Osiris, attesting to the continuity and richness of Egyptian religious iconography at the end of the Pharaonic era.
