Sheet Iron Coffee Grinder, "hourglass" Model, 17th–18th Century
Iron Sheet Coffee Mill, "Hourglass" Model, 17th-18th Century.
An authentic antique coffee mill, dating from the late 17th or 18th century, belonging to the so-called "hourglass" or "diabolo" model, emblematic of the first domestic mills that appeared in France during the reign of Louis XIV.
Made entirely of iron sheet, its body has an elegant truncated conical shape with a double curve, characteristic of these antique models, which were both functional and robust.
It is equipped with a side plate for mounting on a table; this plate is distinguished by a heart-shaped attachment bracket, a detail as charming as it is typical of the craftsmanship of the period. The crank, with its turned wooden handle, is removable and ingeniously designed: it also serves to tighten and loosen the two screws on the plate, demonstrating a design that is as simple as it is effective.
This mill perfectly illustrates the craftsmanship of artisans from the early days of coffee consumption in Europe, combining clean lines with great sturdiness. Its hourglass design reflects the ingenuity of everyday objects from that period.
Dimensions: Total height with crank: 31.5 cm; Height of the body alone: 20.5 cm.
In very good condition. A small, old tin repair is visible under the collection tray, without affecting its sturdiness or appearance. The mill is complete, functional, and displays a superb mottled patina on the metal, preserved in its original condition.
A rare and authentic piece, ideal for collectors or enthusiasts of antique objects related to the history of coffee.
