Pewter Ewer - Toulouse, 18th Century
Shipping via Mondial Relay or La Poste is offered to Metropolitan France
************
Pewter ewer with S-shaped throat, knotted pedestal and gadrooned frieze base, scrolled and draped projecting handle. The base is decorated with a series of lambrequins and the middle part with a wide molding.
City control mark: FF crowned / 1(70)9 / TOL (Tolosa is the former name of the city)
Height: 29.3 cm.
TOULOUSE, First half of 18th c
Beautiful Toulouse type II model, in good condition. An area of cracks is however reported on the pedestal.
In Toulouse, as in many French production centers, the royal edict of 1691 instituting the control hallmark was not rigorously applied and this 1709 hallmark was used subsequently without being updated. As a result, it cannot be used to accurately date objects bearing it.
