Fragment Of A Maigelein Goblet Made Of Molded Glass — Germany, Late 15th Century, Gothic

An archaeologically complete fragment of a small Maigelein-style drinking goblet, characteristic of Germanic glassware from the late Middle Ages, around the end of the 15th century.

These small drinking glasses, short and stocky in shape, are recognizable by the small cone beneath their base, designed to make them easier to hold. Their bodies are generally adorned with molded decorations, most often consisting of waves, gadroons, or small dotted motifs, characteristic of this Germanic glassware production from the late Middle Ages.

The fragment on display retains the vessel’s complete shape, allowing one to fully appreciate its form and decoration. The piece measures approximately 4 cm in height and 8.5 cm in diameter.

The glass exhibits a beautiful archaeological patina, featuring orange-colored concretions and deposits resulting from its time buried.
