Draper's Seal From Rotterdam, 15th Century, Gothic, Medieval, High Period

One side features the coat of arms of the city of Rotterdam, accompanied by the legend "Sigillum de Rotterdamme" (seal of Rotterdam). The arms are composed of a quarterly vert on a pale argent, on a chief or four lions gules and sable.

The other side shows a stylized representation of the river running through the town, the Rotte, figured by wavy lines evoking the waters of the stream.

These seals were once attached to pieces of cloth to guarantee their quality as well as their provenance. Complete examples from this period are still relatively rare on the market.
