15th-century Monstrance Reliquary – Gothic Art, Rare Medieval Object
15th Century Monstrance Reliquary – Gothic Art, Rare Medieval Object.
This 15th-century monstrance reliquary in yellow copper is a remarkable example of medieval religious art. This antique object is a fine example of the so-called "monstrance" reliquaries, designed not only to preserve sacred relics but also to display them to the faithful, unlike earlier, closed reliquaries.
The piece rests on an elegant polylobed base, adorned with finely punched circular decorations. The slender stem is embellished with a central knot, ensuring a harmonious and balanced grip. The openwork chapel, intended to house the relic, is surmounted by an architectural roof, itself crowned by a representation of Christ on the cross, emphasizing the spiritual and symbolic dimension of the whole.
Standing 27.6 cm tall, this reliquary impresses with the quality of its craftsmanship and its authenticity. It has been appraised by the Laurence Fligny Cabinet.
A rare and historically significant item, ideal for collectors of sacred art or enthusiasts of medieval objects.
Price excludes shipping.
Police Register Ref: A015.
