Medieval Floor Tile With Brown And Yellow Engobe Decoration – 14th–15th Century, Normandy

Medieval floor tile with brown and yellow engobe decoration – 14th–15th century, Normandy

Beautiful medieval floor tile, characteristic of 14th–15th-century production, made of terracotta with engobe decoration.

The tile features an elegant geometric design in brown on a yellow background, composed of stylized branches and plant motifs that intertwine around a central cross-shaped motif. The composition, which is particularly graphic and balanced, attests to the refinement of medieval floor tile designs.

This unusual type of motif could likely be attributed to a Norman production, pending a more precise attribution.

In good overall condition for an archaeological artifact of this period, with marks and irregularities consistent with its age and original function.

Dimensions: 12 × 11.8 cm
