Object description :

"Antique Collector's Tray In Embossed Brass, Persia, 19th Century"
Islamic trays often have a story to tell us, reigns, legends, religion, leave their marks in the carving of these pieces of folk art goldsmithery.
Our model tells us the story of a warrior king accompanied by his symbols of protection.
Antique model from the 19th century and with a beautiful patina.
In the center of the tray, a warrior king rides a harnessed horse.
He goes to war, hunting or to paradise (presence of the peacock).
Note around the horse and this king, the presence of a peacock, symbol of immortality and renewal, The blue peacock is found in Persian culture.
## It will be noted that Western iconography sometimes represents the peacock drinking from the Eucharistic Chalice.
## In the Middle East, it is represented alone or on either side of the Tree of Life on ewers, prayer rugs ....: symbols of the incorruptible soul and the psychic duality of man.
Cosmic symbol for Islam: when it makes the wheel, it represents either the universe, or the full moon, or the sun at its zenith.
## A Sufi legend of the golden triangle, probably of Persian origin, says:
"God created the Spirit in the form of a peacock and showed him his own image in the mirror of the divine Essence.
The peacock was seized with respectful fear and dropped drops of sweat from which all other beings were created.
The deployment of the peacock's tail symbolizes the cosmic deployment of the Spirit."
# Bustards, these large birds found in the great plains of Central Asia and Persia,
# A cat: It has 7 lives, the Djinns (genies or creatures of the invisible world) appear in the form of a cat.
In Persia, annoying a black cat brings an unpleasant encounter, This one is nothing other than its own hemzâd,
# of a goat. The goat is a symbol of fertility, lunar and nocturnal, By the sacrifice of a goat, hence the popular expression "scapegoat" we expiate the impurities.
A frieze of foliage closes the scene and brings us to the hemmed and fretted edge.
Other trays are visible on our Proantic gallery.
