A rare Berber terracotta dish decorated with a necklace motif,
Sejnane, Tunisia.
Kabylie, Sejnane,
Decorated with tribal motifs and a necklace design
circa 1900, good condition. (very good condition for its age)
Clay is generally extracted from riverbeds by women.
It is cut into clumps, crushed, purified, and soaked before being kneaded and shaped.
Once fired, the pottery is decorated with two-tone geometric patterns.
These patterns are reminiscent of traditional tattoos and Berber weavings.
