A Bakhtiar family rug with a cruciform design.
This antique rug measures 136 cm wide x 200 cm long and is in good condition.

There is slight surface wear on the short pile.
It features a geometric design typical of its period and very fresh and bright colors for its age, circa 1950.
This rug originates from the Shotour region of Iran, Persia. It is a piece with a square or rectangular cross-shaped structure extending across the entire field, comprising fifteen medallions.
This design depicts large flowers and leaves, as well as trees of life, set in a field and bordered by a thin, highly elaborate border of stylized flowers.
This rug, in fact, is particularly well-crafted and represents a transition between nomadic and urban rugs in the precision of its execution.
These rugs are durable and thick, knotted with very high-quality wool from the mountains.
It will withstand the footsteps of an entire family for many years to come.
The pile is short and hand-knotted. Despite their name, and unlike other types of rugs, Bakhtiar rugs are not knotted by members of the Bakhtiari tribe, but by a different, now settled, population.
The Shotour region produces Bakhtiar rugs, but also the lesser-known Yalame rugs, which resemble our model in shape but have straight polygons.
Yalame rugs are more recent in production but enjoy a very good reputation.
Short fringes, restored and in very good condition, edges in very good condition.
Condition: bright and clean velvet with slight wear from use.
