Floral Afshar Rug, 120 X 188 Cm, Hand-knotted, Qajar Dynasty In Iran, 1890–1920, In Need Of Restoration

A beautiful artifact from the Afshari nomadic culture of the late 19th to early 20th centuries.

In used condition; may or may not require restoration; collector’s item.
Dated to the Qajar dynasty.
It measures 120 cm wide by 188 cm long.
Afshar (Avshar) rug, also known as Sirdjan, originating from Persia (Iran),
hand-knotted from high-quality wool.
Shades of cream, camel, chestnut, apricot, orange, orange-red, black, pink, lime green, and a wonderful petrol blue set against an ivory field.
The colors are treated using plant- and mineral-based dyes.
The ornamentation of this exquisitely refined piece consists of a multitude of vases filled with flowers—34 in total—surrounded by a delicate border of small, stylized yellow flowers.
The carpet is a beautiful artifact from this period, in good condition considering its age and showing no signs of restoration,
The colors are vibrant and give it a very distinctive character.
A fine example of 19th- to 20th-century nomadic culture, in its original condition, which will appeal to connoisseurs.
In southeastern Iran, around the city of Kerman, live the semi-nomadic Afshar tribe, the Afsharis.
For a long time, these nomads lived in northwestern Iran.
Part of the population moved to the southeast, where carpet weaving had been an important economic sector since the mid-19th century.
These carpets feature shades of pink, red, ochre, various blues, violet, and earth tones, and the majority of them feature geometric patterns.
The most common pattern consists of a large central field with one or more square medallions.
Some designs depict an animal hide stretched out before tanning.
A typical feature of Afshar rugs is that they are often relatively wide compared to their length.
Afshar carpets are also marketed under the name Sirdjan carpets.

was a Turkmen dynasty that ruled Iran from 1786 to 1925.
