Important old Kirman lavar, hand-knotted in kork wool in Iran around 1930-1940.
This rug is very finely hand-knotted and measures 224 cm wide by 334 cm long. Density of knots per m2: 420,000 Fine workmanship, delicacy and audacity of the colors, pinks, blues and reds of great beauty, quality of the materials used make them collector's items.
Although originating from the Iranian city of Kirman whose name these rugs bear, a large production region, no piece is more than one hundred and fifty years old today. Indeed, carpet weaving only started in this region around 1880. Our model is a sublime piece of Persian culture which accommodated European and American demand at the beginning of the 20th century. The Kirman is often decorated with flowers and most of the time has a medallion that stands out against a plain background. The motifs of the medallion are repeated in the border and the four spandrels (corners). Some of these rugs also feature large animal scenes. Our model, a kirman is from the city of Kirman, is just a seedling of very realistic various flowers, accompanied by a magnificent medallion, of great delicacy and great beauty ending in two very beautiful designs of flowery pendants and four spandrels decorated with interlacing, roses and stylized palms. Kerman is the largest city in southeastern Iran and is the capital of the province of the same name. The reputation of the Kirman carpets and the raver is due to the excellence of the "Ostads", these cartoon designers of incredible skill have known how to keep the sense of tradition of these great Persian carpets The deep harmony of colors results from a perfect dosage that testifies to the great creativity of Kirman's artisans. The finest rugs are the finest and most beautiful. The greater the number of knots, the finer the rug, and sought after by amateurs and collectors. This piece is in very good condition for its age.
