Antique Kutaya rug also called Kutalya rug, in silk on silk.
This piece measures 111 cm wide by 165 cm long.
Note the fineness of the work, the quality of the design and the freshness of the colors.
The silk velvet is worked with scissors, depending on the colors, to give relief. Born in Turkey under the Ottoman Empire and the second half of the 19th century.
Decorated with a long central medallion, old gold and midnight blue on a red background.
These rugs are inspired by Oushak rugs with a central medallion decorated with a wide variety of patterns.
The whole is taken in four two-tone spandrels, bright red and blue with flower strewn patterns.
The rug is surrounded by a wide old gold and beige border strewn with many patterns and flowers.
Knotted in silk, we owe this rug to the work of nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes that were the kutayas.
They were followers of stylistic conceptions totally geometric and the use of bright and bold colors whose arrangement is particularly harmonious.
Today, these carpets are still knotted in the villages, but also in larger workshops of the "cooperative" type for wool carpets.
The colors regularly used are blue, red, cream and a touch of curry yellow.
Our model is adorned with these nuances.
The whole makes up a carpet of very high quality, of a fine model, uncommon in very good condition, for amateurs.
