Afshar rug, ( Avshar ) also called, Sirdjan originating from Shahr Babak.
High-quality hand-knotted wool piece, from the second half of the 19th century.
It measures 151 cm wide by 192 cm long, in shades of pinkish ochre and many blues laid on a field covered with indigenous shades
The color treatment was made using plants and minerals, proof is, the parts dyed black have no oxidation.
The ornamentation of this extremely fine piece is composed of a multitude of medallions, encircled by a hexagon border representing stylized flowers, all bordered by a very finely executed braid representing carnations .
the rug is in very good condition given its age and does not include any restoration, its rug life was on the wall, which allows such a beautiful condition.
The colors are luminous and give it a magnificent cachet.
A very fine example in its juice that will please the connoisseur with its wear from use, the selvedges have been taken up at certain endoits, a long time ago.
The ends are with very short bangs as on almost all antique rugs.
In southeastern Iran, around the town of Kerman, live the semi-nomadic Afshar tribe.
For a long time, these nomads had lived in north-western Iran, but part of the population moved to the south-east, where carpet-making had been an important economic sector since the mid-19th century.
These carpets have pinkish, red, ochre, many blue and violet shades, and the majority of them feature geometric motifs.
The most common pattern used is composed of a large central field with one or more square medallions.
Some designs represent the skin of an animal stretched before being tanned.
