Hand-knotted wool carpet from Kayseri, Turkey. It measures 123 cm wide by 167 cm long.
Mid-20th century, in very good condition.

With a thin and supple weave, this carpet features a niche.
This niche, shaped like a Gothic window with two twin columns, is surmounted by a panel adorned with stylized flowers and surrounded by rich borders.
Apple blossoms (representing fertility) and geranium flowers are present against a pale green background.
Numerous small geranium flowers, a symbol used by Turkish weavers, dot the interior of the mihrab.
Our carpet demonstrates the beauty and finesse of execution that Turkish weavers brought to their work, contributing to the spiritual elevation and devotion of their patrons.
