The border, composed of varied motifs, alternating palmettes and branches, is inspired by ancient Herat models.
This piece as a whole is in very good condition, the velvet clean, the selvedges impeccable.
The overall condition is very good, there is no pile reduction,
the fine kork wool used is top quality.
The colors are fresh with no loss of hue and not insolated.
Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran.
At the time of the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendor.
Fine-weave carpets of great compositional richness were knotted by the royal manufacture of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
Craftsmanship came to a halt in Kashan between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
Recarpet production began with rugs distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance.
These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, subjects with figures, inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant setting, trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and designs,
Kashan carpets took their place among the finest Persian rugs.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
