Hand-knotted Kashan rug in kork wool circa 1900-1920.
It measures 131 cm wide by 207 cm long for 490,000 knots per m2.

The central motif of eight flowers in a medallion juxtaposed with a smaller one, also in bloom, has two important halberd-shaped pendants along the length of the piece.
It draws a large stylized flower in full bloom, surrounded by other numerous flowers and interlacing.
Lotus flowers, Monabbat-kari peonies, palms cover the field.

The border composed of varied motifs, alternating palmettes and ramifications is inspired by ancient Herat models.
The whole of this piece is in very good condition.
The velvet is very clean, the selvedges impeccable (restored) as well as the short bangs.
The overall condition is very good, there is no pile reduction, the fine kork wool used is top quality.

The numerous colors are fresh, of quality, without loss of hue and not insolated.
Many blues, red, ivory, ....
This beautiful antique rug originates from Iran, it was knotted under the Kadjar dynasty, before 1925.

Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran.
At the time of the Persian renaissance, Kashan was the center of rug production of legendary splendor.
Fine-woven carpets of great compositional richness were knotted by Shah Abbas's royal manufactory.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
Craftsmanship came to a halt in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
