A rare antique Bakhtiar from the mid-19th century.
A superb piece with an intricate design for collectors of antique rugs in their original, "just-discovered" condition.

This rug measures 125 cm wide by 170 cm long.

Our antique piece naturally shows signs of wear, but the fine weave and original design are intact.
One can even draw a parallel with the Caucasian style based on the motifs, particularly the border design featuring oak leaf motifs.

This rug is best suited for hanging on a wall or for a collection of fine ethnic rugs. A genuine antique rug.
The shades of red, Persian blue, and orange are very vivid because they are naturally derived and applied to high-quality wool.
These rugs are marketed under the name Bakhtiar (or also Baktiar, Bachtiar, and Bakhtiari) 
These Bakhtiar rugs are made with sturdy wool and are tightly knotted, making them very thick and durable.
They are considered among the most durable Persian rugs.

A well-known pattern is the so-called "Khesti " (garden) pattern, in which the rug is divided into squares containing plants and animals—symbolizing the Persian garden—but there are also medallion designs depicting trees of life, influenced byIsfahan rugs.

The finest Bakhtiar rugs, which have the densest knotting, are occasionally called "Bibibaff" .
In the Zagros Mountains (Zard Kuh, 4,548 m), west of Isfahan, near Shahr-e-Kurd, live the Bakhtiari nomads.
Most of them speak the Lori dialect of Persian,
while those living in Khuzestan Province speak Arabic.
The Bakhtiari wear loose-fitting pants, a round hat, and short tunics, the origins of which date back as far as the Parthian Empire (200 BCE–200 CE).
The leaders—the "khans"—of these tribes have regularly held important positions in Persian society.
