Antique Senneh Rug, 144 X 214 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Iranian Kurdistan, Beautiful Antique Persian

This very well preserved carpet is from the first part of the 20th century, around 1900-1920.
It has a beautiful velvet and its short kilim-style fringes are made of unbleached cotton.
Originally from Iranian Kurdistan, from the city of Siné, today called Sanandaj.
Called Senneh, these carpets are extremely fine, far from other more rustic Kurdistan carpets and current production.

The silky midnight blue field has a triple medallion juxtaposed covered with a very regular sowing of flowers which would represent stylized tulips.
A floral decoration alternates with hexagons in the main border, surrounded by small floral bands.
This type of carpet exudes perfect harmony, the wool used is soft, silky and shiny, of high quality.
This piece has always been well maintained which has allowed the velvet to remain in beautiful condition.
The production of Senneh has a lot of resemblance to the carpets of Bidjar or other nomadic regions.
It is recognized for its quality and its resistance. The knotting is much finer and the designs more refined.
The fame of Senneh is due to the quality of its antique carpets made on demand from merchants and to the taste of customers. The use of a cotton weft thread instead of a wool weft, shorter shaving to obtain a cleaner design (therefore wool of excellent quality), and a density varying between 420,000 and 750,000 knots per square meter are the main characteristics of Senneh carpets.
Senneh kilims are as renowned as its knotted carpets. (see our gallery)Today, since the 90s, the quality of Senneh, like most of the production, has greatly diminished, and the number of knots has dropped to around 200,000 to 250,000 knots per square meter.
In addition, wool dyers now only use chemical dyes, and the designs are always almost identical.
In a word, a lack of artistic and artisanal quality today, which increases the reputation of old Sennehs.
