This Gashghai rug features a central ethnic medallion design, a beautiful early 20th-century piece dating from around 1900.
It measures 145 cm wide by 206 cm long and is made of high-quality wool on wool.
Originating from Iran, this rug is in excellent condition, with a lovely patina and very slight wear consistent with age.
The rust, midnight blue, and ivory colors of the field create a striking contrast against the midnight blue background.
The intricate design includes a medallion bordered by stepped lines, revealing numerous stylized tribal and floral motifs.
The border consists of large stylized flowers on an ivory background.
The mixed-fiber fringes are in good condition and often include goat, sheep, camel, and horsehair.
These blends are found in most ethnic rugs from Iran, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
The muted colors of a lustrous, soft wool contrast with the light indigot, white, pink, orange, blue, and red of all the motifs placed on the darker field, creating a striking and luminous contrast.
These rugs are primarily dyed with natural, mineral, and plant-based products.
The beautifully complex design reveals numerous tribal motifs and other stylized plant motifs that are always found on these rugs.
These rugs are knotted in the Shiraz region, located near ancient Persepolis, which gave its name to Persia, present-day Iran. Shiraz is located in the Fars province, where the Ghashghai tribes reside and produce rugs under both names:
Shiraz or Ghashghai.
Dimensions: Width: 145 cm (57") x Length: 206 cm (81").
This rug has been cleaned. Professionally and ecologically.
