These carafes contained appetizing or curative drinks such as iskenjebi or cherbet.
These drinks are an integral part of Azerbaijani culinary art. Heavily decorated with friezes of stylized flowers in small diamonds, recumbent mandorlas, twelve large gadroons hemmed on the belly.
A large bronze handle, strongly held by a hammered attachment.
The end of the spout delicately hammered.
Under the spout, a large flower with six petals opens onto a cloud of small flowers.
On the cup a delicate frieze of flowers finishes a decoration of sticks.
These motifs are fully found on the rural carpets of this region.
The stylized floral motif took on great importance under the Sassanid dynasty and later under the Safavid dynasty of Persia (1501-1736).
It was a major textile motif in Iran during the Qajar and Pahlavi dynasties in a more elaborate way.
At that time, these motifs were used to decorate royal insignia, crowns and court clothing, as well as textiles used by the general population.
The fine carvings show the dexterity of Persian engravers even on a fine quality ethnic object of rural origin.
These wonderful tinned coppers, under the Safavid and Qajar dynasties, were an eminent alternative to silver and they enjoyed the same status.
These objects certainly lived as the centerpieces of Persian homes.
A magnificent artifact of Persian art, our highly crafted model can only become a centerpiece of a fine collection.
Very good patina overall.
