Cooking Cauldron, Copper, With Handle, 19th Century, Iranian Azerbaijan, Very Good Collector's Condition
Made of thick red copper, it features a lavishly elaborate decoration of a frieze of arabesques, intricately hand-engraved.
This frieze is followed by two braided designs that run precisely around the bowl without any breaks.
The frieze design is enhanced by grooves cut from top to bottom to create relief.
A sturdy wrought-iron handle is attached to the cauldron by three rivets on each side.
This type of object, decoration, and technique are found in the Near East, but more specifically in the region of Iranian Azerbaijan. These elegant designs are also found in the borders of certain Persian carpets, particularly those from Heriz, and even some from Tabriz.
