Joshagan Rug, 135 X 193 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool From Iran, Circa 1980, In Perfect Condition
Artist: Art D'iran
A rug from Iran called Joshagan, "Jowshaqan".
Hand-knotted from wool around 1980, this piece is in perfect condition.
It measures 135 cm wide by 193 cm long.
This particular type of rug features a design known as “djangali,” meaning “jungle.”
It gets its name from the numerous stylized floral motifs that fill the red field.
Antique Joshagan rugs are rust-colored.
# An antique example from the early 20th century is featured in our Proantic gallery for €1,990.
See the last photo.
Two reinforcement strips secure the rug on the reverse side.
The colors are intense and vibrant on a beautiful wool pile.
The selvedges and fringes are in very good condition.
A beautiful hand-knotted Persian rug with magnificent design, in perfect condition.
Once produced exclusively in the village of Jowshaqan,
these rugs have also been knotted in Meimeh and Moutcheh Khourt since World War II.
These villages are located along the main road to Isfahan.
Meimeh carpets share many similarities, but they are more linear and feature fewer distinct motifs compared to Jowshaqan carpets.
They are often confused with certain Bakthiar rugs, particularly the Samam (see our gallery).
The tradition of Jowshaqan rugs dates back to the 16th century.
A large, thick, and comfortable rug.
Dimensions: Width: 135 cm (53") x Length: 193 cm (78")
This rug has been professionally cleaned using eco-friendly methods.
