Kilim / Chuval. Fethiye. Anatolia. Circa 1960. 250 X 82 Cm

A very beautiful chuval from Fethiye in southwestern Turkey.
Chuvals, or “çuval” in Turkish, are grain sacks once used by the nomadic peoples of Anatolia.
This one has simply been unstitched and opened up to form a piece that can be placed on the floor or used as a runner.
These items often consist of two distinct parts. The front is usually decorated and embroidered with patterns, while the back consists of horizontal stripes in the same colors.
Traditionally woven and embroidered with wool on wool.
Beautiful plant-based dyes, all soft and harmonious.

Circa 1960
Very good condition, two small, barely visible restorations.

Dimensions: 250 x 82 cm
