Object description :

"Kazak Rug, 215 X 280 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool From The Caucasus Circa 1970, In Very Good Condition, Tribal Design"
Hand-knotted Kazak wool rug, circa 1970, in superb condition.
Impeccable rug.
Decorated with three octagonal medallions supporting Median stars set against a brick or ivory background.
Surrounded by hooks, similar to the swastika, a symbol of happiness, on a midnight blue field.
In the center of each medallion is a Median star, also known as the Star of Solomon.
The border is decorated with a symbol of eternity, stylized flowers, and a T-shaped motif on the outside.
This geometric, lozenge-shaped composition with hooks is found in the Ganja region, located southwest of Kazakh (100 km). Ganja is at the crossroads of Russia, Turkey, and Iran.
A very similar design is also found in the ancient work of the tribes of Balochistan.
This illustrates the difficulty in identifying certain Caucasian rugs that are referred to by the generic term... Kazak.
Note the nuances of wool in the brick, green, and blue tones, evidence of a handmade rug and ancestral craftsmanship.
The stars echo the rug's colors.
The central cross medallion with hooks is of Armenian tradition, brought by emigrants to the new regions where they settled. The colors used also connect us to this region; brick, green, blue, and terracotta are shades found in Kazakh tradition. Dimensions: Width 215 cm (84") x Length: 280 cm (110").
