Galerie Mille-fleurs Kazak Carpet, 141 X 347 Cm, Dated 1932, Wool On Wool, Caucasus
Artist: Kazaks
Artist: Kazaks
Milliflora gallery rug, Kazak with large hexagonal medallion, hand-knotted wool over wool.
This piece is dated and signed four times.
A date and signature in each corner,
1344 in Persian, i.e. 1932.
Ancient restoration of both selvedges, velvet in good condition, bangs in good condition.
Rug in very fine overall condition.
Rare antique Kazak from the Caucasus, Artifact probably originating from Georgia or Armenia.
In the center of the medallion:
a highly stylized thousand-flower decoration in irregular bands in shades of taupe, camel, brick, red, pink, bronze green.
Bordering:
Decoration of a repeating motif lined on the outside with a grecque resembling the Caucasian "running dog" border.
This type of stylized heratic and geometric composition is found at the crossroads of Russia, Turkey and Iran.
This pattern is also found with great similarity in many Caucasian carpets from different ethnic groups and regions.
This makes it difficult to identify certain Caucasian carpets that are referred to under the generic term Kazak.
Note the extraordinary shades of wool dyed in bands across the width, in brick and bronze greens, proof of a handmade carpet and ancestral craftsmanship.
.The shades used bring us closer to the aforementioned region, as brick, bronze green and terracotta are nuances found in the tradition of all Kazak territories.
A well-worked, highly decorative piece in very fine condition and of rare chromatic quality.
Dimensions : Width 141 cm ( 55" ) x length : 347 cm ( 136" )
