Old Prayer Rug, Ottoman Splendor, 123 X 186 Cm, Bush Or Istanbul, 19th Century

Prayer rug with twin columns, originally from Istanbul or the Bush, Ottoman Empire, from the mid-19th century and measuring 123 cm wide by 186 cm long in wool matching silk.

The Mihrab with a sober wavy arch, as a decorative element such as the palmette and the rosette, are common to all the Ottoman decorative arts. The use of a restricted range of colors such as blue, golden yellow, cream-brown and beige is, and remains, one of the typical features of the Ottoman court style known as "saz".
They are the rarest of this production which began in the middle of the 16th century in the factories of Brousse and Istanbul.
The carpets considered rare of this production, present a mihrab of plain color whose decorative function is entrusted to the arch of the niche in wavy shape, simple or complex, and to its surroundings, planks, spandrels, and, in particular the main border. which hosts the volutes of palmettes, rosettes, and leaves on a creamy brown background.

In the center of the niche, slender twin columns from Western architecture stand out against a blue background.
The graceful and elegant lamp descends without ostentatious color from the middle of the top of the niche.
The skillful borders add a finishing touch to the magnificent and rare ensemble that can also be found on Giordes rugs.
This beautiful and exceptional prayer rug is very bright and is in good condition.
The last photo shows the reverse of this long piece of thick linen for good support.
An extraordinary old collector's item.
