Brass tea or coffee tray.
The piece is chiseled with foliage, arabesques, stars, flowers, and interconnected geometric patterns.
The central decoration consists of a large star, representing the sun.
Eight stars adorn the rim. The tray has three levels.
A very beautiful piece of oriental folk art with a superb patina! Ottoman art, circa 1900-1920.
The word "coffee" is thought to come from the ancient Arabic word "qahwa," also written "caoua" or "kawa," which refers to any stimulating beverage providing strength and vigor, but also to coffee or coffee beans.
