Isfahan or Ispahan rug in a hand-knotted blend of wool and silk.
This magnificent piece measures 142 cm wide by 212 cm long.
It features a rare and intricate design for this type of Persian rug, considered among the finest found in Iran.
This museum-quality rug dates from the second half of the 19th century and was knotted during the Qajar dynasty.
The decoration incorporates traditional floral motifs found in 17th-century carpets, mosques, and ancient ceramics.
Roses and daisies are easily recognizable in the interlacing patterns, appearing on the field and borders, often knotted into these rugs.
The border and its counter-borders are exceptionally sophisticated, with a particularly fine arrangement of interlacing patterns and flowers. The design of the central rectangular or square medallion, characteristic of these rugs, with its elegant halberd-shaped pendant extensions, and the corner motifs demonstrate great artistry.
This rug features a large floral design.
Roses, daisies, peonies, palms, are displayed with elegance in an orderly design like a vision, an invitation to paradise.
The colours are pleasant and have remained fresh, Prussian blue, midnight blue, ochre, wine lees, old rose and brown are shades that one rarely encounters.
We can hardly imagine the infinite patience required, and still required, to create such a beautiful piece.
It has a density of approximately 640,000 knots per square meter and a thickness of just under 5 millimeters.
The edges are in good condition, with a nearly invisible 15 cm restoration seam.
