Artist: Tekkés
Tekke rug knotted by the Turkmen of Central Asia in wool, from the 1950s/1960s.
From the middle of the 20th century, beautiful size, 163 cm wide by 245 cm long, in perfect condition.
It is understood that the rug is rectangular.
This piece is knotted in a soft wool of very high quality and decorated with tribal motifs.
Mainly in the shape of a medallion called "gül" (usually an octagon, a square or a slightly modified diamond).
This motif repeated constantly on the field gives these rugs great elegance and an almost heraldic character.
In doing so, the borders are generally the same color as the field, this is part of the nomadic way of life consisting of moving away from all ostentatious forms.
Both ends of the rug are decorated with "Kotchaks" an ethnic design featuring rams' horns.
The border consists of a wide band decorated with a motif Caucasian called "running dog" bordered by two bands of stylized flowers in small squares. Both ends are in kilim finish finished with fringes.
## The tribe had its "gul" probably as a rallying crest.
The soft and shiny wool is very tightly and very finely knotted (until the 1950s).
The pile is flush and this carpet has a beautiful patina.
The colors, many are fresh, a wine lees makes up the field, the patterns are adorned with orange, lavender, forest green, ivory, ... Turkmen artisanal carpets are very well made.
In other regions, nomadic carpets are often loosely knotted and have long hairs, unlike Afghan or Turkmen carpets which have dense and tight knots with the Persian knot, velvet lines and goat hair or sheep wool, soft and shiny.
The use of goat and camel hair is more common for the warp and These rugs have a masculine aura and have always been appreciated since the 19th century for the decoration of businessmen's offices.
These majestic rugs are certainly the best in Central Asia and are the work of the Turkmen tribes.
The same spirit of knotting and pattern is found in the neighboring rugs of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
These rugs remain with the Caucasus the hardest to differentiate, so many are the patterns and specific to the clans of all Central Asia.
