Pair Of 19th-century Maffrash Shahsaven Cushions. 40 X 40 Cm
This pair of cushions has just come out of our workshop. Let’s start by taking a closer look at the item.
The front is made using the Sumak technique, which is similar to embroidery. The back is made of velvet for softness and comfort. It’s worth noting that Catherine, our seamstress, has masterfully created this set in a cohesive way—both in terms of texture and the harmonious color of the velvet, which precisely echoes one of the orange-ochre shades found on the front.
Let’s talk specifically about the front: a pair of fragments from a Maffrash Shasaven originating in Persia. The weaving is masterful, of extreme finesse. The motifs seem almost carved into the fabric, such is the precision of every contour. This is what I like to call refinement—the refinement born of the craftsmanship of the most experienced weavers.
Dyed exclusively with plant-based dyes, the indigo blues are ravishing.
Stylized dragon and scorpion motifs, both associated with protection.
More than just highly decorative cushions, these pieces embody the entire history of exceptional weaving, expressed in ultra-harmonious and vibrant hues.
These Maffrash fragments date from the late 19th century.
