The segucha is a V-shaped embroidered textile traditionally made in Uzbekistan to adorn the bedding pile (chuk), an essential element of interior design in Central Asian homes.
Originally, this embroidery was sewn onto a larger panel of cotton or wool—usually red in color—placed between the blankets so that only the embroidered portion remained visible.
Over time, the fabric backing has often disappeared, leaving only the embroidery itself, which is now appreciated as a textile work of art in its own right.
With its refinement, the delicacy of its silk embroidery, and the richness of its decoration, the segucha exemplifies the remarkable craftsmanship of Uzbek embroiderers. Intended both to embellish the home and to symbolize the family’s prestige, it now stands as a precious testament to the textile traditions of Central Asia.
