Embroidered Silk Shoulder Collar (yunjian).china Qing Dynasty.
Artist: Qing
The collar is in salmon silk embroidered with silk threads in shades of blue to white. Metallic thread detail. The decoration features peony flowers (immortality) on two opposite corners and lotus flowers (purity, harmony) on the other two corners. A discreet but very important detail is the presence of highly symbolic signs embroidered on either side of the lotus flowers: on the left, a stylized butterfly (love, joy) and on the right, a sign representing a 4-pronged fork topped by 6 4-petal flowers. The exact symbolism of these two signs escapes us. Probably a wish for prosperity, harmony and marital happiness. This type of collar was worn over a dress. Chinese work from the 19th century, circa 1850. Discolored, but good condition, complete, no tears, see all photos. Diagonal: 70cm. 50x50cm.
