"Drawing Of The "little Sultan" By Angèle Bouët. Napoleon III Period."
Drawing of a young boy dressed in oriental style. The clothing seems to indicate the Ottoman Empire. According to the written indications it would be a "Little Sultan" painted by Md Bouët Angèle in 1870 in a boarding school called "Pontlieue" near Le Mans. On the back of the drawing the label of a framer from Le Mans confirms the region. This framer Zakarie Maignan was known for his quality work. We did not find traces of this painter. Nothing either on the child represented. Was it an orientalist disguise for a party inside the boarding school or was it really one of the many sons of Sultans sent to France to study? Good general condition. Some stains. No restoration. Size of the drawing alone: 60x46cm.
