Achille Fouquier (1817-1895?) 9 “Rhodes 1855” pencil drawing 10 X 18.5 cm approximately, unsigned, framed by a Marie-Louise surrounded by a line 25.5 X 34 cm. This drawing, humorously captioned "My gendarme on duty", shows us a character dressed in the oriental style sleeping outside.

An indefatigable traveler, Achille Fouquier brought back sketches, anecdotes and observations from his many travels, collected in several books that were published. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life are testimony to the history of these regions
