French School, circa 1800: "The Little Cherry Lover," oil on canvas, 23 x 16 cm, mounted in a superb black and gold carved wooden frame, 29 x 23 cm (damaged).
Relined, worn, repainted, and with a thick layer of yellow varnish that flattens the overall appearance and obscures the details.
A good cleaning will, I believe, reveal the fine details of this little boy gorging himself on cherries that the young woman is trying to hide from him !
