Kilim Cuval Balikesir - Anatolia. Circa 1880. 211 X 73 Cm
Of exceptional finesse and in a near-miraculous state of preservation, this Cuval originates from Balikesir in Anatolia. Cuvals are grain bags once used by the nomadic populations of Anatolia. They are also true works of art, where the weavers' expertise was freely expressed in the production of these everyday objects. Woven wool on wool using traditional methods, the weaving is a marvel. Its extreme fineness and precision are remarkable. The motifs seem sculpted from the material, so perfectly are their contours executed. This piece has been unstitched and thus opened up, allowing it to be used as a runner or hung on the wall. Above all, it allows the piece to be seen in its entirety. The plant-based hues are very rich, all in a delicate and controlled harmony. Circa 1880. Excellent condition. 211 x 73 cm. Laurent Beauty of Kilims
