Antique Tabriz Rug, 143 X 212 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Iran, Late 19th Century, Collector's Condition, Persian

Antique Tabriz rug with floral decoration, juxtaposed medallions in the shape of cruciferous flowers set within a large mandorla with double pendants. The intricately patterned raspberry field is framed by four spandrels connected to the border, displaying a highly complex design. The soft, fine wool offers a harmonious palette of magnificent colors, creating a striking contrast. Orange, raspberry, rust, midnight blue, pale blue, sea green, chamois, ivory, and red adorn the design. This rug measures 143 cm wide by 212 cm long and is in very good condition. The fringes are short, the edges are in perfect condition, and the pile is impeccable. A late 19th-century rug, possibly from the very beginning of the 20th century, with stylized medallions and flowers. "The artist saw flowers in nature and did not represent them as they are; God created them, therefore the artist stylized them, for only God has the "Perfection." This is practically true for every representation, floral or animal, in Islamic art. The artist must therefore work in the abstract. (Tabriz (Azerbaijani: Təbriz/ تبریز, formerly Tauris) is the capital of the province of East Azerbaijan, in northwestern Iran (Iranian Azerbaijan). It is located on the Talkheh River (also called Aji-Chāi), near Lake Urmia, close to the borders of Azerbaijan and Armenia.) Tabriz is the gateway to Persia from the north to the west, and Tabriz carpets are extremely important in the quality of Persian carpets. Tabriz carpets are among the most prized in the world; their workmanship is always very fine and durable. This carpet has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
