Undoubtedly, Bijar rugs remain the most durable! This Persian Bijar rug is hand-knotted wool from the Iranian highlands. It measures 132 cm wide x 210 cm long and is pre-1950 and in perfect condition. The shearing of these wool rugs is so precise and clean that the material resembles silk, giving the wool a beautiful sheen. Not far from Sanandaj, the region of finely knotted Senneh rugs, lies the small town of Bijar, which, along with its surrounding villages, produces what are undoubtedly the heaviest and most... "More durable than any other Persian rug." Heavy and thick, Bijar rugs are difficult to handle but incredibly robust. The velvet, fringes, and edges are in excellent condition. Our model features a classic pale blue hexagonal floral medallion design, also found on Senneh rugs. The field presents a highly elaborate, stylized floral pattern in fresh and luminous shades against a scarlet background. The finely knotted midnight blue borders are adorned with shades of apricot, old rose, almond green, and red. Kilim-style finish at both ends followed by fringes in excellent condition; the thick velvet is particularly soft, and the edges are impeccable. Note the soft, fresh colors of this rug, which harmonize perfectly with the floral design. A beautiful abrash is visible along the length of the rug; this fading is considered a desirable characteristic in Persian rugs.
