Istanbul Carpet, Ottoman Art, 127 X 190 Cm, Hand-knotted Silk On Cotton, Circa 1900 - 1920
Artist: Art Ottoman
Carpet from Istanbul, Turkey,
hand-knotted in silk on cotton,
from the early 20th century,
1900 - 1920 under the Ottoman Empire.
This piece in silk on cotton weft, measures 128 cm wide by 190 cm long excluding bangs,
and 210 cm with bangs.
This rug is in very good condition.
The mihrab or niche is in the horseshoe shape typical of Istanbul prayer rugs.
But it is above all an object of great decoration having certainly been used little or not at all for worship.
Two geminated columns and a lamp adorn the niche.
The soft colors of this rug:
pistachio, lime, apricot, chestnut, water green, midnight blue, pale blue, are pleasing shades to the eye.
The use of a restricted range of colors is one of the typical features of the Ottoman court style known as "saz".
They are the rarest of this production which began in the middle of the 16th century in the factories of Brousse and Istanbul, while knotting these carpets very densely for 600,000 knots per M2.
The long bangs on one side are shorter on the other.
## This rug has rings on the reverse, for hanging, which may explain its very good condition.
Dimensions: 128 cm ( 50") x 210 cm ( 83" ) with bangs and very fine, 4 mm thick.
Our model is in very good condition for its age,
it has the characteristics described above and is a very fine collector's rug from the late Ottoman Empire.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
The buyer of this little marvel will receive an invoice valid as a certificate and a full description of the object
