The Hindus’ knowledge of metallurgy is profound and ancient.
The famous iron pillar of Chaudragoupta II in Delhi proves that as early as the 5th century, Indians were able to cast masses of iron far greater than any European foundry could have handled before the second half of the 19th century.
It is worth noting that, curiously, this pillar—exposed to the elements—has never suffered from rust, and the inscriptions on it remain as clear as when they were first engraved.
