"Two Spoons Originating From Iran, Dating From The 19th Century (1850-1880)"
Here is a spoon and spoon handle from 19th-century Iran (1850-1880), a specialty of the village of Abadan, located between Abadan and Shiras. Large spoons were made in two parts; the long handle was inserted into a slot beneath the central rosette. Large spoons were used for sorbets, medium spoons for soup or rice, and small spoons for pickles. They are made of linden wood. The handle, curved at one end, is openwork with geometric patterns and bears inscriptions. It measures 17 cm x 3 cm. The spoon has a hanging hook at the end of the handle, shaped like an animal head. The handle also features geometric designs and is 25 cm long. There is a very slight crack in the bottom of the spoon.
