Seated Bronze Buddha – Thailand, Rattanakosin Period, Late 19th – Early 20th Century

An elegant bronze sculpture depicting the Buddha seated in the bhūmisparśa mudrā (Earth-Touching Mudra), a posture symbolizing the moment of Enlightenment. The sculpture features a serene face with delicate features, hair rendered in fine curls topped by the traditional ushnisha, and a simple drape falling over the left shoulder. The Buddha rests on a pedestal decorated with stylized lotus petals. It was cast using the traditional lost-wax method, and traces of the refractory clay core remain beneath the base, attesting to its manufacturing technique. Traces of hand finishing visible beneath the base confirm that this is a handcrafted piece. It features a beautiful, even, antique black patina that highlights the volumes and lines of this devotional sculpture intended for a home altar. Origin: Thailand.
Period: late 19th–early 20th century (Rattanakosin period).
Material: bronze with a black patina.
Technique: lost-wax casting. Dimensions Height: 21 cm Weight: 1.1 kg Condition: Very good condition, beautiful original patina. Normal signs of wear consistent with its age.
